Set up oXnames email on iPhone or iPad
Add your oXnames business mailbox to Apple Mail manually using secure IMAP and SMTP settings.
Get the right details ready
Have the full mailbox address and its mailbox password ready. The password may be different from your Knox account password.
Secure oXnames email settings
Always use the server assigned to this service in Knox. Do not copy another customer or server hostname.

Security first. Never include account passwords, card details or authentication codes in a support ticket.
Connect the mailbox securely
Work through each step in order. Keep this guide open in another tab if that is easier.
- 1
Open Mail account settings
Open Settings, choose Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts and Add Account. On older iOS versions the route may be Settings, Mail, Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other.
- Tap Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full email address, mailbox password and a useful description.
- 2
Choose IMAP
Select IMAP at the top of the New Account screen. IMAP keeps the same folders and read status across Apple Mail, webmail and other devices.
- 3
Complete Incoming Mail Server
Use the assigned hostname displayed under Connect your email in Knox.
- Host Name: your assigned mail server.
- User Name: your full email address.
- Password: the mailbox password.
- 4
Complete Outgoing Mail Server
Apple labels some fields optional, but the username and password are required for oXnames SMTP authentication.
- Host Name: your assigned mail server.
- User Name: your full email address.
- Password: the mailbox password.
- 5
Save and verify the ports
Tap Next and Save. If you need to check the advanced settings, use IMAP port 993 with SSL and SMTP port 587 with STARTTLS, or SMTP port 465 with SSL.
- Do not continue through a certificate warning.
- Make sure Use SSL is enabled.
- Keep Server Port set to the secure value.
- 6
Test Apple Mail
Open Mail, select the new account and send a message to another address. Reply to that message and check that it arrives on the iPhone.
Check that it worked
Apple Mail verifies the account and begins synchronising the Inbox, Sent and other IMAP folders.
Try this before contacting support
If Apple Mail says the username or password is incorrect, re-enter the full email address in both username fields. If it cannot verify the server, compare the hostname with Knox and confirm SSL is enabled.
Open a support ticket →Answers before you get stuck
Why does iPhone say Cannot Verify Server Identity?
Stop rather than accepting the warning. Check that the hostname exactly matches the assigned server in Knox and that the device date and time are correct.
Why does Apple show SMTP username as optional?
It is optional for some providers, but oXnames SMTP requires authentication. Enter the full email address and mailbox password.
Will deleting a message on iPhone delete it elsewhere?
With IMAP, changes synchronise with the server. A deleted message will normally move to Trash and that change appears in webmail and other connected devices.
Interface wording can change after application updates. See Apple iPhone and iPad Mail setup guidance alongside the oXnames settings above.
