Download a website backup from cPanel
Create an independent copy of website files, databases and account data before a major change.
OXWritten by oXnames SupportChecked against the current Knox workflow
WHERE TO GO IN YOUR ACCOUNTcPanel > Files > Backup or Backup Wizard
Get the right details ready
Select the correct hosting service and domain before opening cPanel. File, database, DNS and email changes can affect the live service immediately.
Security first. Never include account passwords, card details or authentication codes in a support ticket.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Make the change in Knox
Work through each step in order. Keep this guide open in another tab if that is easier.
- 1
Open Backup or Backup Wizard in cPanel.
- 2
Choose a full account backup when moving the whole account, or partial backups for files and databases.
- 3
Start the backup and wait for cPanel to finish preparing it.
- 4
Download the archive to a secure device or separate backup location.
- 5
Keep more than one dated copy and test important database exports.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Check that it worked
cPanel prepares a downloadable archive or accepts the selected restore operation.
IF IT DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT
Try this before contacting support
Keep an independent copy away from the hosting account. A backup stored only on the same server is not a complete disaster-recovery plan.
